Homemade Steamed Bao Buns

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm soy milk
  • 1/4 cup + 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active yeast
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3 + 1 tablespoons sesame oil (or any oil)
  • Bonsan jackfruit filling

Preparation

  1. Mix warm milk with 1 tablespoon sugar and yeast. Set aside for 10 minutes.

  2. Mix remaining ingredients except 1 tablespoon sesame oil and filling. Knead for 5-6 minutes then let rest for 1-2 hours.

  3. Divide dough as desired (makes about 16 small or 8 large balls) and roll into balls.

  4. Shape as desired (either fill the balls or roll into bao buns and place on baking paper).

  5. Steam in hot steamer for 15 minutes and enjoy.
