Grilled Marinated Tofu for Salads and Bowls

Ingredients

  • 1 package extra firm tofu (14 oz)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional)

Preparation

  1. Press the tofu for 30 minutes using a tofu press or by wrapping in a towel and weighing down with a heavy skillet.

  2. Cut the tofu into 1/2 inch wide strips.

  3. Make the marinade by whisking together soy sauce, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, fine sea salt, black pepper, and optional liquid smoke.

  4. Place the tofu in a sealable container, cover with marinade, and marinate for a few hours or overnight.

  5. Preheat grill to 450 degrees F and brush the grate with oil.

  6. Grill the tofu for 8-10 minutes on each side until it firms up and has grill marks.

  7. Do not skip pressing the tofu to allow the marinade to absorb properly.
