Crispy Baked Turkish Mantı

Ingredients

  • 500 grams ground meat
  • 1 medium onion, grated
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, plentiful
  • 1 ready-made phyllo sheet
  • Olive oil and water mixture for sealing
  • Strained yogurt
  • Garlic, optional
  • Pepper paste
  • Butter
  • Olive oil
  • Red pepper flakes
  • Mint
  • Sumac

Preparation

  1. Grate the onion and mix it with the ground meat, salt, and black pepper to prepare the filling.

  2. Cut the phyllo sheet in half and place a generous row of meat mixture along the wide edge.

  3. Roll up the phyllo tightly, seal with a mixture of olive oil and water, and cut into 2-3 cm pieces.

  4. Arrange the pieces on a baking tray.

  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 25-30 minutes until crispy.

  6. Mix strained yogurt with garlic to taste for the topping.

  7. Prepare a sauce by melting butter and olive oil together and stirring in pepper paste.

  8. Drizzle the yogurt and sauce over the baked mantı, then sprinkle with red pepper flakes, mint, and sumac.

Tips

  1. Use less phyllo and more meat for a meatier version as preferred.

  2. Serve immediately to maintain the crispy texture.
