Clay Pot Mutton Bhuna
Ingredients
- 1 kilo mutton
- 3 chopped medium onions
- thumb size piece of ginger
- 5 garlic cloves
- 2 medium tomatoes
- 4 green cardamoms
- 3-4 cinnamon sticks
- 3-4 bay leaves
- pinch of fenugreek seeds
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp Kashmiri Chilli powder
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 2 tsp curry powder
- 1.5 tsp cumin powder
- 1.5 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 cup Greek yoghurt
- 2-3 large serving spoons of oil (about 60-70ml)
- coriander for garnish
Preparation
Marinate the mutton with all of the ingredients listed above except coriander. If using a clay pot, ensure it is prepared in advance for cooking.
Place the meat on low heat to cook for about 2 to 2.5 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent burning. Cook in its own juices until tender; the dish should be slightly dry as it is a bhuna.
Garnish with coriander and serve hot with rice, naan, or roti.
Tips
You can cook this curry in a normal saucepan over low heat to achieve similar results.
The slow cooking process enhances the flavor, and cooking time may vary based on pot type and desired meat doneness.
