French Croque Monsieur Sandwich
Ingredients
- 12 slices of white sandwich bread
- 300 g cooked ham
- 150 g Comté cheese or another cheese of your choice
- Salt and pepper
Bechamel sauce
- 450 g whole milk
- 45 g all-purpose flour
- 45 g butter
- A pinch of salt
- Nutmeg and pepper
Preparation
For the bechamel, melt the butter, add the flour and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add the milk gradually, stirring. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Cook until thickened, then transfer to a bowl and cool in the refrigerator.
Spread the bechamel on 2 slices of bread. Add grated cheese and ham. Cover with another slice of bread and press lightly.
Spread more bechamel on top, grate additional cheese, and bake in a fan oven at 200°C for 15 minutes or until golden.
