Authentic Turkish Simit Bread

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (500 g) flour
  • 275 ml water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 5 g instant yeast or 7 g fresh yeast
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Topping

  • 150 g sesame seeds
  • 50 ml molasses
  • 100 ml water

Preparation

  1. Mix the flour, water, salt, sugar, yeast, and olive oil in a bowl to form a dough.

  2. Knead the dough until smooth, then let it rise in a warm place until doubled.

  3. Punch down the dough and shape it into rings.

  4. Combine the molasses and water for the coating mixture.

  5. Dip each ring in the mixture and coat with sesame seeds.

  6. Bake in a preheated oven until golden brown.

Notes

  1. 1 cup equals 200 ml and 1 tea glass equals 100 ml.
