Turkish Poppy Seed Braid
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- Half package fresh yeast
- 1.5 teaspoons salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- Flour as needed (about 5-6 cups)
Topping
- 1 egg yolk
Filling
- 1 cup ground poppy seeds
- 1/3 cup vegetable oil
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
Preparation
In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients except flour and mix.
Gradually add flour to form a soft dough.
Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for 40-45 minutes.
Roll out the risen dough on a surface with a rolling pin.
Brush the dough with melted butter.
Mix the vegetable oil with ground poppy seeds and spread evenly over the dough.
Fold the dough from both sides towards the center.
Cut into approximately 3 finger-width strips.
Bend the strips from the edges and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Prepare all the dough in this way and arrange on the baking sheet.
Brush the tops with egg yolk.
Bake in a preheated 180°C oven until golden brown.
