Turkish Cheese-Filled Poğaça

Ingredients

  • 2 cups warm milk
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • 1/2 packet baking powder
  • Flour as needed, approximately 7 cups

Filling

  • Lor cheese and fatty white cheese mixture

Egg wash

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
  • Poppy seeds

Preparation

  1. Mix all dough ingredients together to form a smooth dough and let it rise for 1 hour.

  2. Shape the dough, add the cheese mixture to the centers, and seal the edges.

  3. Place the shaped poğaça on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  4. Let the poğaça rise for another 20 minutes.

  5. Brush the poğaça with a mixture of 1 egg yolk and 1 teaspoon vegetable oil.

  6. Sprinkle with poppy seeds.

  7. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 15 minutes.

  8. Remove from the oven and cover with a cloth for 5 minutes.

Tips

  1. This recipe yields 39 poğaça, and eating two should be satisfying.
