Soft and Fluffy Turkish Poğaça
Ingredients
- 2 cups warm milk
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet instant yeast (or 1 tablespoon)
- 2 eggs
- 4.5-5 cups flour
Topping
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon molasses
- Sesame seeds
- Nigella seeds
Preparation
First, place milk, sugar, and yeast in a mixing bowl and stir.
Add the other ingredients in order and knead to form a soft dough that does not stick to hands, adding flour gradually.
Cover and let rise for half an hour; using room temperature ingredients will speed up the rising.
When the dough has doubled in size, knead again to deflate it.
Tear off mandarin-sized pieces and shape into balls or desired shapes.
Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced apart.
Let rise in the pan for 30-45 minutes.
Brush with egg yolk mixed with molasses and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C with top and bottom heat until golden brown.
Remove from oven, cover with a clean cloth, and serve after resting.
Tips
Pan rising is an important tip. This recipe yields about 2 trays of poğaça. You can also make a cheese-filled version.
