Mahlep Flavored Turkish Buns
Ingredients
- 2 cups warm milk
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon mahlep powder
- 1 tablespoon dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt (less than full)
- 1/4 cup warm water
- Flour as needed
Topping
- Roasted sesame seeds
Preparation
Activate the yeast by mixing dry yeast, sugar, and warm water in a glass and letting it foam.
Transfer the mixture to a bowl and add all ingredients except flour; mix until homogeneous using a whisk.
Gradually add flour and knead the dough until smooth.
Let the dough rise for about one hour.
Punch down the dough to release air, then divide into mandarin-sized pieces, shape into balls, and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
Cover and let rise for another 15 minutes.
Brush with egg yolk reserved from the eggs and sprinkle with roasted sesame seeds.
Bake in a preheated 190°C oven until golden brown.
Remove from oven and serve.
