Turkish Açma Bread Rolls
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 packet yeast
- 5 tablespoons sugar
- 1.5 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon mahlep
- 4-5 cups flour
Topping
- 2 egg yolks
- 1 tablespoon milk
- nigella seeds
Preparation
Add all ingredients to a kneading bowl, knead the dough, and let it rise.
Divide the dough into orange-sized pieces, place 1 teaspoon butter on each, cover, and rest for 15 minutes.
Roll each piece into a rope, shape into a ring or simit form, and rest for another 15 minutes.
Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush with a mixture of egg yolk and milk, sprinkle with nigella seeds or sesame seeds, let sit for 10 minutes, then bake in a preheated oven at 200°C until golden brown.
