Asian BBQ Cauliflower Wings

Ingredients

  • 1 lb cauliflower, cut into small to medium size pieces (approximately half of a 907 g bag or half of a large head)

Batter

  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 3/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup almond milk

Asian bbq sauce

  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp mirin
  • 1/2 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp chili paste
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame seeds

Preparation

  1. Combine all ingredients for the Asian BBQ sauce in a bowl.

  2. Preheat the oven to 450°F.

  3. Whisk the batter ingredients together in a medium bowl until thick enough to coat the cauliflower; add more milk if necessary.

  4. Dip each cauliflower piece in the batter, shake off excess, place on a parchment-lined baking sheet, and bake for 10 minutes.

  5. Remove the cauliflower from the oven, transfer to a large bowl, add three-quarters of the Asian BBQ sauce, mix until combined, then return to the baking tray and bake for another 10 minutes.

  6. Remove from the oven, brush with the remaining sauce, and broil for 3-5 minutes until golden brown; watch carefully to avoid burning.

  7. Garnish with sliced green onions.
