Split Pea Dahl with Garlic and Cumin
Ingredients
- 250ml/1 cup Split peas
- 500ml/2 cups water
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1 tbsp curry powder
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- Pinch of salt
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 hot chili pepper, whole
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
Preparation
Heat olive oil in a saucepan.
Add crushed garlic and cumin seeds and cook for 5 minutes until garlic is fried but not burnt.
Add the split peas and water.
Add curry powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and a whole chili pepper without cutting (optional).
Cook until peas are soft and mushy, topping up water as needed.
Season to taste with salt.
Serve with roti or plain white rice and add cilantro or coriander.
Note: If coriander is not available, it still tastes amazing.
