Vegan Strawberry Babka Wreath

Ingredients

Dough starter

  • 1 cup flour
  • a pinch of sugar
  • 1 tbsp dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm milk of choice

Dough

  • 1/2 cup melted vegan butter or margarine
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • about 2 cups flour
  • a pinch of salt
  • 3-4 tbsp strawberry jam
  • 1 tbsp milk of choice for coating

Preparation

  1. Mix all the ingredients for the dough starter and let it sit covered for 15 minutes

  2. Add melted margarine and sugar and mix well

  3. Add 1 cup of flour and salt and start kneading the dough

  4. While kneading, add about 1 more cup of flour

  5. When you get a smooth ball of dough, cover it and let it sit for an hour

  6. Roll it into a rectangle shape and spread the jam on top

  7. Roll it closed into a long log, turn upside down so the pinched ends are facing down, cut in the middle and twist wrap the two logs around each other until you get a long braid

  8. Close the braid into a wreath, cover and let it sit for 15 minutes

  9. Coat with 1 tbsp of milk and bake at 170C for 30-40 minutes

  10. Dust with powdered sugar
