Mixed Dal Fry with Green Pea Pilav

Ingredients

  • beluga lentils: 1 tin draines⠀
  • yellow lentils: 1/4th c⠀
  • red lentils: 1/4th c⠀
  • onions: 1 sliced in quarters⠀
  • tomatoes: 2 small⠀
  • fresh coriander: 1c⠀
  • ginger: 1 t grated⠀
  • dried red chilles: 2⠀
  • cumin seeds: 2 t⠀
  • asafoetida: 1 t⠀
  • kitchen king masala: 3-4 t⠀
  • salt: 2 t⠀
  • olive oil: 1 t⠀
  • water: 3 c divided⠀
  • for tempuring:⠀
  • coconut oil: 1 t⠀
  • red chilly powder: 2 t⠀
  • mustard seeds: 1 t⠀

Preparation

  1. Cook yellow lentils in a pressure cooker till done⠀

  2. Bring 2c water to boil in a pot

  3. When water comes to boil add onions and tomatoes and cook till soft (5-6 minutes)

  4. Drain and add to a blender with fresh coriander and kitchen king masala

  5. Blend to form a paste⠀

  6. Heat olive oil in a pan and add ginger, cumin and dried chilly

  7. Stir for 1 minute and add the paste into the oil

  8. Cook stirring for 5-6 minutes till the paste thickens

  9. Add red lentils and 1 c water

  10. Bring to boil and then let simmer with lid on for a few minutes till the lentils begin to soften but are not completely cooked

  11. Add beluga lentils and yellow lentils and cook on a low flame till dal is cooked done

  12. In a separate pa heat coconut oil

  13. When oil is hot add mustard seeds and red chilly powder

  14. Immediately pour the oil over the dal and serve with a lemon⠀
