Vegan Tofu Burger Buns

Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 2 Tbsp neutral flavor oil
  • 1/2 cup soft tofu
  • 1 Tbsp instant yeast
  • 1 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

Preparation

  1. Whisk together all ingredients except salt and flour until tofu no longer has visible pieces

  2. Add in flour and salt

  3. Mix using a heavy spoon or stand mixer

  4. Knead for 5-10 minutes until dough is smooth

  5. Transfer dough to oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 2 hours

  6. Preheat oven to 375°F

  7. Divide dough into 10 pieces and roll into balls

  8. Cover and let rest for 5 minutes

  9. Flatten each ball into a 3-inch diameter disc

  10. Place on parchment-lined baking sheet, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise for 45 minutes

  11. Brush tops with oil or melted butter

  12. Top with sesame seeds if desired

  13. Bake for 15-18 minutes

  14. Transfer to wire rack to cool completely

  15. Freeze if longer storage is desired
