Fluffy Steamed Mantou Buns

Ingredients

  • 240g all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon instant dry yeast
  • a pinch of salt
  • 133g water

Preparation

  1. Place flour in a mound on a cleaned surface and create a well in the middle using fingers or a spoon.

  2. Add the yeast, a pinch of salt, and sugar in the well.

  3. Gradually pour in the water while bringing the surrounding flour into the mixture.

  4. Knead for 10 to 12 minutes until a very smooth dough is formed.

  5. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and mold each into a ball on parchment paper.

  6. Let the buns rest for 30 minutes uncovered.

  7. Prepare a pot for steaming.

  8. Place buns in a bamboo steamer and steam over high heat for 12 minutes.

  9. Remove and serve warm.
