Crispy Tofu Stir Fry with Veggies and Rice

Ingredients

  • 500 grams tofu
  • 2-3 garlic cloves
  • Tiny piece of ginger
  • 2 tablespoons tamari sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sweet chilli sauce
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon plain flour
  • Enough water to make a paste
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
  • Sesame oil or any oil
  • Vegetables: peas, corn, broccoli
  • Brown rice and quinoa

Preparation

  1. Remove moisture from tofu using paper towel; wrap and leave for 10 minutes.

  2. In a bowl, mix tamari sauce, sweet chilli sauce, crushed garlic, and ginger.

  3. Cut tofu into square pieces, add to the mixture, coat well, and marinate for at least 15 minutes with a lid.

  4. In another bowl, mix cornstarch, plain flour, and water to make a paste; dip tofu pieces and coat well.

  5. Heat sesame oil in a pan and shallow fry the tofu until golden brown.

  6. Optionally, skip the coating and frying; stir-fry directly with the sauce for a non-crunchy version with the same taste.

  7. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top and serve with stir-fried vegetables and fried rice made from brown rice and quinoa.
