Teriyaki-Style Crispy Crinkle-Cut Tofu Sticks

Ingredients

  • Tofu cubes
  • 1/4 cup coconut aminos or low-sodium tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp garlic chili sauce or hot sauce
  • 3 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp smooth peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp cornstarch
  • Optional: 1/4 tsp water for thickening

Preparation

  1. Remove tofu cubes from bag.

  2. Bake on a lined baking sheet at 375°F for 15 minutes, flipping halfway.

  3. Meanwhile, whisk together the sauce ingredients.

  4. Heat the sauce gently in a small saucepan.

  5. If desired, mix 1/4 tsp cornstarch with 1/4 tsp water and add to the sauce while heating.

  6. Continue mixing the sauce while heating until it starts to thicken.

  7. Remove from heat and stir in a little water to thin the sauce if needed.

  8. When the tofu is just crispy, remove from oven and brush lightly with sesame oil.

  9. Bake for another 3 minutes.

  10. Remove from oven and mix the tofu into the sauce.

  11. Serve immediately.
