Crispy Tofu with Yeast and Spices
Ingredients
- 1 block extra-firm tofu
- 2-3 tablespoons nutritional yeast
- 1 tablespoon gluten free flour
- 1 tablespoon gluten free bread crumbs
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- Cayenne pepper to taste
- Olive oil or preferred oil
Preparation
Remove as much water as possible from tofu using a press and wrapping in a tea towel to gently press again.
Whisk together all ingredients except tofu in a bowl large enough to toss the tofu.
Add tofu cubes and toss until well coated; reserve extra coating for second coating.
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add enough olive oil to thinly coat the bottom.
When oil shimmers, add coated tofu cubes and cook for about 10 minutes, flipping to brown all sides.
Return tofu to the coating bowl and toss again to cover all sides with reserved coating.
Add another thin layer of oil to the pan, heat until shimmering, and add tofu back in.
Cook for another 10 minutes, turning or tossing as needed to ensure even cooking.
