Simple Tempeh Marinade and Simmering Technique

Ingredients

  • 1 block of tempeh, cut into cubes or strips
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 garlic powder

Preparation

  1. If tempeh is bitter, simmer or steam it first with a flavorful broth to improve taste.

  2. Add all marinade ingredients to a saucepan and bring to a simmer.

  3. Allow tempeh to cook on one side for 3 minutes before flipping.

  4. Cook the mixture for another 2-3 minutes and sauté until all liquid is absorbed and cooked off.

  5. To add more flavor, optionally include a sauce, an extra splash of soy sauce, and 2 tsp maple syrup.

  6. Gently cook and allow the tempeh to brown and caramelize.

  7. Serve with additional sides for a satisfying meal.
