Vanilla Cake with Chocolate Buttercream Layers
Ingredients
Cake
- 1 3/4 cup cake flour (can easily be made with gf flour)
- 3/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter room temp
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 egg whites room temp
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 cup sour cream room temp
- 1/2 cup whole milk room temp
Chocolate buttercream
- 1 cup unsalted butter room temp
- 3 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
- 1/2 cup coco powder
- 3 tbsp milk
- 2 tsp vanilla
- salt
Preparation
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
Beat butter and sugar on high speed.
Add egg whites and vanilla; beat on high speed.
Add sour cream and beat on high speed.
Add dry ingredients until just combined.
Slowly pour in milk.
Prepare 6-inch pans, divide batter into three layers.
Bake for 20-22 minutes or until a cake tester comes out clean.
Allow to cool, then frost with chocolate buttercream and add berries and sprinkle on top.
