Pyramid Knafeh Dessert

Ingredients

Knafeh

  • 500 grams knafeh
  • 1.5 cups ghee
  • 0.5 cup powdered sugar

Qishta

  • 3 cups milk
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 3 tablespoons starch
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 0.5 cup coconut
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground mastic

Syrup

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Garnish

  • Pistachios

Filling

  • Dried fruits
  • Nuts

Preparation

  1. Prepare the syrup by combining sugar, water, lemon juice, and vanilla in a saucepan and bring to a boil, then simmer until slightly thickened and set aside.

  2. Make the qishta by mixing milk, flour, starch, sugar, coconut, vanilla, and ground mastic in a pot and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened, then set aside to cool.

  3. Prepare the knafeh mixture by combining shredded knafeh, ghee, and powdered sugar in a bowl until well coated.

  4. Assemble the knafeh in a greased baking dish by layering half the knafeh mixture, adding dried fruits and nuts, spreading the qishta on top, and covering with the remaining knafeh mixture, pressing gently.

  5. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30 to 40 minutes or until golden brown.

  6. Remove from the oven and immediately pour the warm syrup over the hot knafeh.

  7. Garnish with crushed pistachios and serve warm.
