Sweet Indonesian Tempe Bacem Dish
Ingredients
- 600 grams tempeh
- 2 inches galangal
- 3 bay leaves
- 2 blocks palm sugar, grated
- 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
- Salt to taste
- Water as needed
- Optional: tofu, to taste
Ground spices
- 10 shallots
- 5 cloves garlic
- 1 tablespoon roasted coriander
Preparation
Cut the tempeh into pieces.
In a pan, mix all the ground spices, galangal, and bay leaves.
Add the tempeh, season with salt and water enough to submerge it, add the grated palm sugar, and cook until it boils.
After boiling, add the sweet soy sauce. Stir occasionally if tofu is added. Cook until the water evaporates and spices are absorbed.
Fry the tempeh briefly before serving.
Tips
Cook on low heat to allow spices to absorb into the tempeh.
Optionally add tofu for variety.
Can be stored in the refrigerator for later use.
