TLT Sandwich with Smoky Tempeh

Ingredients

Smoky tempeh strips

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp coriander
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1 block tempeh

Tlt sandwich

  • 2 slices sprouted bread
  • 6-8 smoky tempeh strips
  • 3-4 slices tomato
  • Handful of spring mix greens
  • 1/2 avocado
  • Optional: everything but the bagel seasoning
  • Optional: hot sauce

Preparation

Tempeh

  1. In a shallow dish, combine soy sauce, ketchup, vinegar, and seasonings, and whisk together to combine.

  2. Place the tempeh strips into the marinade and allow to sit for at least 10 minutes.

  3. Grease a pan or use a non-stick pan and bring to medium heat.

  4. Place tempeh strips on the heated surface and cook for about 3-4 minutes or until browned on the first side.

  5. Add additional marinade on top, flip the tempeh, and cook for another 3-4 minutes or until browned and slightly charred.

  6. Continue cooking until tempeh is evenly browned.

  7. Remove tempeh from the stove top.

Sandwich assembly

  1. Assemble the sandwich by layering bread with spring mix greens, tempeh, tomato slices, and avocado.
