Sweet Arabic Sesame Rings
Ingredients
- 5 cups flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons ground anise
- 1 tablespoon nigella seeds
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup fine-grained sugar
- 3 tablespoons powdered milk
- 4/3 cup corn oil
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup roasted sesame seeds
Preparation
On a piece of parchment paper or in a deep bowl, sift the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the anise and black seeds.
In the mixer bowl, place the eggs and sugar. Attach the whisk attachment. Run the mixer on medium speed for 10 to 15 minutes until the mixture becomes very fluffy.
Remove the whisk attachment and attach the dough hook. Add the flour mixture and anise. Add the powdered milk, oil, and vanilla. Run the mixer on low speed until dough forms.
Position the rack in the middle of the oven. Preheat the oven to 160°C.
Prepare shallow baking trays.
In a small plate, place a little oil. In a deep plate, place the roasted sesame seeds.
Take a piece the size of a walnut from the dough. Shape the dough into a thin finger. Close the finger into a medium-sized ring. With your finger, brush the ring with a little oil. Sprinkle sesame seeds on the shaboura ring.
Bake the shaboura for 15 minutes until golden brown.
Remove the shaboura from the oven. Place the trays on a wire rack and let the shaboura cool completely then serve.
