Simple Vanilla Milk Cake
Ingredients
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1 cup fine-grained sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable shortening or soft butter
- 1 cup low-fat milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 medium eggs
Preparation
Adjust the rack to the middle of the oven. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Prepare 2 round cake pans of 8 inches. Grease the pans with shortening and flour.
In the mixer bowl, place flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, shortening, milk, vanilla, and eggs. Attach the beater. Turn on medium speed for 2 minutes to form a smooth cake batter.
Spread the cake batter evenly in the pans.
Bake for 35 minutes. Test doneness with a wooden toothpick. It should come out clean when inserted in the center.
Remove from oven and let cool for 3-4 minutes. Invert onto a wire rack or cardboard base and let cool completely.
Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Add a little cream. Place the second layer. Spread cream on sides and top of cake.
Refrigerate until serving to enhance flavor.
