Easy Homemade Falafels with Tahini Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups chickpeas (dried raw)
  • 1/2 cup fresh chopped parsley
  • 1/4 cup fresh chopped coriander
  • 1/4 cup chopped white onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp lemon zest
  • 1/4 cup sesame seeds

Tahini sauce

  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1/4 cup yoghurt (any)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • squeeze lemon
  • 1/4 tsp ground cumin
  • salt and pepper

Preparation

  1. Soak chickpeas overnight or until doubled in size

  2. Preheat oven to 375F

  3. Drain, rinse and dry soaked chickpeas

  4. Pulse all ingredients except sesame seeds in food processor without blending smooth

  5. Form mixture into balls and flatten slightly

  6. Coat in sesame seeds and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes

  7. Lightly oil baking tray and brush oil on falafels

  8. Bake for 20 minutes until golden

  9. Optionally, pan fry or air fry for a crunchier texture

Tahini sauce

  1. Mix 1/4 cup tahini, 1/4 cup yoghurt, 1 minced garlic clove, a squeeze of lemon, 1/4 tsp ground cumin, and salt and pepper
