Beginner-Friendly Bosnian Börek
Ingredients
- 5 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 cups warm water
Spreading mixture
- 50 grams butter
- 1/2 teacup vegetable oil
Filling
- 500 grams ground meat
- 2 onions
- salt
- black pepper
Preparation
Knead the dough with 5 cups flour, 2 cups warm water, and 2 teaspoons salt, then let it rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
Mix 50 grams butter and 1/2 teacup vegetable oil in a pan for spreading.
Divide the dough into 4 pieces and roll each out to the size of a plate.
Place a tablespoon of the oil mixture on a plate and lay the rolled dough on it, repeating for all pieces with oil in between.
Cover and let rest for another half hour.
Stretch each dough piece on a table by hand until very thin.
Add the prepared filling to the stretched dough, then fold and roll into a log shape.
Trim the thick edges for better results.
Arrange the rolls on a baking tray.
Brush with the remaining oil mixture.
Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 30 minutes until golden brown.
Tips
You can use different fillings such as potatoes or other vegetables.
Adjust baking time based on your oven for best results.
