Beginner-Friendly Bosnian Börek

Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 cups warm water

Spreading mixture

  • 50 grams butter
  • 1/2 teacup vegetable oil

Filling

  • 500 grams ground meat
  • 2 onions
  • salt
  • black pepper

Preparation

  1. Knead the dough with 5 cups flour, 2 cups warm water, and 2 teaspoons salt, then let it rest for 30 minutes to 1 hour.

  2. Mix 50 grams butter and 1/2 teacup vegetable oil in a pan for spreading.

  3. Divide the dough into 4 pieces and roll each out to the size of a plate.

  4. Place a tablespoon of the oil mixture on a plate and lay the rolled dough on it, repeating for all pieces with oil in between.

  5. Cover and let rest for another half hour.

  6. Stretch each dough piece on a table by hand until very thin.

  7. Add the prepared filling to the stretched dough, then fold and roll into a log shape.

  8. Trim the thick edges for better results.

  9. Arrange the rolls on a baking tray.

  10. Brush with the remaining oil mixture.

  11. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C for about 30 minutes until golden brown.

Tips

  1. You can use different fillings such as potatoes or other vegetables.

  2. Adjust baking time based on your oven for best results.
