Cheesy Baked Potato Gratin

Ingredients

  • 3-4 medium potatoes, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 cup full-fat milk
  • 1 cup cream
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

For serving

  • Salt
  • White pepper

Preparation

  1. Heat the oven to 180°C and grease a medium-sized baking dish with butter.

  2. In a deep bowl, place the milk, cream, eggs, salt, black pepper, and nutmeg, and mix with a hand whisk until combined.

  3. Place potato slices in a deep bowl, then sprinkle some salt and black pepper, and mix well by hand.

  4. Place a layer of potato slices in the dish, sprinkle some cheese and some onion slices, then add a second layer of potato slices, sprinkle cheese and onion, and top with mozzarella.

  5. Pour the milk and egg mixture carefully over the potatoes.

  6. Bake in the oven until set and golden brown, about 30 to 40 minutes.

  7. Serve the potato gratin hot.
