Air-Fried Tofu with Umami Sauce

Ingredients

Tofu

  • 1 block of Extra Firm Tofu
  • 1 tbsp Tamari or Low Sodium Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/4 cup Nutritional Yeast
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Sauce

  • 1 cup Vegetable Broth
  • 3 tbsp Tamari or Low Sodium Soy Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Ginger, minced
  • 1 tsp Garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp Maple Syrup or Brown Sugar
  • 1 tbsp Sriracha or Chili Sauce of choice (optional)
  • 2 tbsp Cornstarch
  • Salt & Pepper to taste

Preparation

Tofu

  1. Freeze, fully defrost, and press tofu before cooking.

  2. Dice tofu into 3/4 inch cubes and ensure even dicing for uniform cooking.

  3. Add tofu to a mixing bowl and coat evenly with tamari or soy sauce.

  4. Add garlic powder, salt, pepper, and nutritional yeast, then coat evenly.

  5. Air fry at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 22-25 minutes, flipping every 7-8 minutes, or bake at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 25-30 minutes, flipping every 7-8 minutes.

  6. Coat with cooking spray before adding to air fryer or oven, and bake on parchment paper for best results.

Sauce

  1. Add all ingredients to a mixing bowl and whisk until well incorporated.

  2. Add sauce to a pan on medium-low heat and cook for 5 minutes until it thickens.

  3. Add tofu to the pan and coat evenly in sauce.

  4. Serve over brown rice and top with green onions.
