- 1 kg apples
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 100 g sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour (or breadcrumbs)
- 1 package filo dough (or strudel pastry)
- 50 g melted butter
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
- Vanilla sauce, for serving (optional)
Optional add-ins
- Rum-soaked raisins, to taste
- Sliced almonds
- Pine nuts
- Ground hazelnuts
Preparation
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (convection: 180 degrees) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper
Peel, quarter, and core the apples, then cut into 1 cm cubes
In a bowl, mix the apple cubes with lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, and flour
Take the filo dough sheets out of the package
Halve each dough sheet and brush the edges with melted butter
Place about 2 tablespoons of the apple filling along the top edge of each dough piece and press firmly to form a log, leaving a 2 cm border on the left and right
Fold the left and right borders inward and roll up the dough piece starting from the apple filling
Place on the baking sheet with space between and form a total of 16 mini apple strudels
Brush the tops of the strudels with the remaining melted butter
Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes
Dust with powdered sugar just before serving
Serve with vanilla sauce if desired
Tips
Optionally, add rum-soaked raisins, sliced almonds, pine nuts, or ground hazelnuts to the apple filling for extra flavor
