Italian Style Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 500ml full-fat soy milk
  • 8 squares vegan dark chocolate (50g)
  • 1/4 cup coconut cream
  • 3 tbsp cacao powder
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract or paste (optional)

To serve

  • 4 tbsp coconut cream
  • 2 squares vegan dark chocolate (13g)

Preparation

  1. Finely grate 2 squares of chocolate and set aside.

  2. Break the remaining chocolate into individual squares.

  3. In a small saucepan, heat 50ml of soy milk over low temperature.

  4. Once the milk is hot, add the maple syrup, cacao powder, 8 squares of chocolate, and vanilla extract if using, then stir with a whisk or wooden spoon until combined.

  5. Gradually add the remaining soy milk, adding only a small amount at a time and combining completely before adding more to prevent the mixture from splitting.

  6. Continue to heat, stirring constantly, for another 3-5 minutes until the desired temperature is reached.

  7. Remove from heat, add 1/4 cup coconut cream, and stir until combined.

  8. Serve immediately, topped with coconut cream and the grated chocolate.
