Bread Pudding with Custard Sauce

Ingredients

  • 8 slices bread
  • 2 cups fresh milk
  • 3 tablespoons fine sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla essence
  • Butter

Custard sauce

  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons custard powder

Preparation

Pudding

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a baking dish.

  2. Cut the bread into cubes.

  3. Spread butter on the bread cubes.

  4. In a bowl, whisk together milk, sugar, eggs, and vanilla essence to make the custard mixture.

  5. Soak the bread cubes in the custard mixture for a few minutes.

  6. Transfer to the baking dish and bake until set and golden, about 30-40 minutes.

Custard sauce

  1. In a saucepan, mix custard powder and sugar with a little water to form a smooth paste.

  2. Gradually add the remaining water and milk.

  3. Heat gently over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens.
