Makhana and Dry Fruit Kheer

Ingredients

  • 100 grams makhana
  • 2 teaspoons ghee
  • Almonds (to taste)
  • Cashews (to taste)
  • A few makhana for grinding
  • 1 liter full fat milk
  • 5-6 teaspoons cardamom powder
  • Optional: saffron strands
  • 1/4 cup or more sugar
  • Dry fruits of choice (e.g., cashews, pistachios, almonds)

Preparation

  1. Roast the makhana in ghee and set aside.

  2. Grind some almonds, cashews, and a few makhana into a powder.

  3. In a pan, bring 1 liter of full fat milk to a boil.

  4. Add cardamom powder and saffron if using.

  5. When the milk has reduced, add sugar and the nut powder.

  6. Stir continuously until the desired consistency is reached.

  7. Add the roasted makhana and chosen dry fruits.

  8. Cook on low heat for 5 minutes.

  9. Serve hot or cold.

Tips

  1. This kheer can be enjoyed both hot and cold and is suitable for fasting periods like Navratri.
