Easy Tortilla Fruit Turnovers
Ingredients
- 4 large apples, peeled and chopped into small cubes (e.g., pink lady)
- 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 2 - 4 tbsp maple syrup (adjust to taste)
- 8 small tortillas
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 tablespoons flaked almonds
- 1 tsp granulated sugar (optional)
Preparation
Peel and chop the apples into small cubes.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
In a pan, combine the chopped apples, ground cinnamon, and maple syrup. Cook for 10-15 minutes until the apples are soft but still hold their shape. If it's too dry, add a couple of tablespoons of water. If too wet, follow the note below.
Allow the filling to cool slightly.
Lay out the tortillas and brush the edges with beaten egg.
Place a couple of spoonfuls of the apple filling in the center of each tortilla.
Fold the tortillas over the filling and use a fork to crimp and seal the edges.
Brush the tops of the turnovers with more beaten egg and sprinkle with flaked almonds.
If desired, sprinkle with granulated sugar.
Bake the turnovers in the preheated oven for about 13 minutes or until they are golden brown.
Allow the turnovers to cool slightly before serving. Note that the filling will be very hot.
