Healthy Apple Pie Wraps

Ingredients

  • 6 apples, peeled and cut into small cubes (pears can also be used)
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 - 4 tbsp water
  • 1 - 2 tbsp maple syrup or honey
  • 6 wraps (small Mission wraps)
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp flaked almonds

Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.

  2. In a small pan, combine the apples, ground cinnamon, vanilla, and half of the water. Cook over medium heat for 15 minutes, until the apples are soft and slightly caramelized. If the mixture appears dry, add the rest of the water as needed based on apple variety.

  3. Stir in the maple syrup, ensuring the mixture is well combined. Set aside.

  4. Lay out the wraps and evenly divide the apple mixture among them.

  5. Brush beaten egg around the edges of each wrap.

  6. Fold the wraps in half and use a fork to crimp the edges shut firmly.

  7. Brush the top of each wrap with more beaten egg, sprinkle flaked almonds on top, and press them down using a little more egg wash.

  8. Bake for about 15 minutes, until the tops are golden brown.

  9. Allow the wraps to cool for a couple of minutes before enjoying.
