Worried About Keeping Well, Keep Calm, and Make Some Elderberry Syrup

Ingredients

  • 1 cup dried elderberries- mine are from @mountainroseherbs
  • 4 cups water
  • 1.5-2 cups honey or maple syrup for a vegan version! (I like a little less sweet so I use about 1.5)
  • 2 inches ginger
  • 2 sticks of cinnamon
  • A handful of star of anise

Preparation

  1. Combine all ingredients except honey

  2. Bring to boil, then simmer and stir frequently about 45 minutes, reducing the liquid by half

  3. Strain, and pour back into the pot

  4. Stir in honey

  5. Let cool, then pour into a jar and label and seal

  6. I keep mine in the fridge and take a few spoonfuls a day when I feel a cold coming on

  7. Also great to add to cocktails
