Iron-Rich Arepa with Mortadela Filling

Ingredients

  • 150g Mortadela
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Sweet Pepper
  • 3 Garlic Cloves
  • 1 cup Cornmeal
  • 1.25 cups Water
  • Salt to taste
  • Optional filling

Preparation

  1. Mix cornmeal, water, and salt to form a dough

  2. Shape the dough into patties

  3. Cook the patties on a griddle or pan until golden brown on both sides

  4. In a separate pan, sauté onion, garlic, and sweet pepper until softened

  5. Add mortadela to the vegetable mixture and heat through

  6. Stuff the cooked arepas with the mortadela filling and serve
