Fluffy Turkish Cheese Poğaça
Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 1 packet instant yeast
- 2.5 tablespoons sugar
- 1 heaping teaspoon salt
- 7 cups flour (add gradually)
Filling
- white cheese
- parsley
Topping
- egg yolks (reserved from the eggs)
- 1 teaspoon milk
Preparation
In a bowl, combine lukewarm milk, water, sugar, and yeast and stir well to dissolve the sugar and yeast.
Add the egg whites and vegetable oil and mix together.
Add the flour and salt, knead into a soft, non-sticky dough, and let it rise.
After the dough has risen, divide it into pieces.
Roll out each piece without making it too thin.
Add a small amount of cheese and parsley filling and seal it closed.
Shape into cylinders and form as desired, then place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Repeat the process with all the dough.
Let the shaped dough rise for 25 minutes.
Mix the reserved egg yolks with 1 teaspoon of milk and brush over the tops.
Bake in a preheated 200°C oven until golden brown.
Remove from the oven, cover with a damp kitchen towel, and let rest for 10 minutes.
Serve as desired for breakfast or tea time.
