Easy Vegan Gravy for Thanksgiving
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup Earth Balance
- 1 medium yellow onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped
- 3 cups vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon vegan Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour
Optional
- 1/4 cup dried mushrooms
- 1 1/2 cups hot water
Preparation
Melt the butter and cook the onion and garlic for 3 minutes over medium heat.
Stir in the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil.
Strain the mixture through a fine mesh strainer.
Return the liquid to the pot and bring to a simmer.
Scoop out 1 cup of broth and mix with 1/4 cup all-purpose flour or gluten-free flour until well combined.
Pour the mixture back into the broth and whisk to combine.
Bring to a simmer and serve.
Tips
You can make it ahead and reheat, adding a little water if needed to thin.
For more flavor, soak 1/4 cup dried mushrooms in 1 1/2 cups hot water for 30 minutes, then strain and use 1 cup of the mushroom water in place of one cup of the vegetable broth.
