Vegan Tofu Steak with Chips and Brown Butter

Ingredients

  • 1 block tofu
  • 2 medium potatoes (400g)
  • 1.5 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Optional: pinch of garlic powder
  • Optional: 1-2 tablespoons nutritional yeast

Vegan brown butter

  • 3 tablespoons vegan butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon tahini

To serve

  • Salt
  • Chopped coriander or parsley
  • Cracked black pepper

Preparation

  1. Drain and press the tofu, then cut it into 4 steaks.

  2. Cut the potatoes into 1/2 cm thick fries using a mandolin or knife.

  3. Toss the fries with olive oil, smoked paprika, and optional garlic powder and nutritional yeast.

  4. Air-fry the fries until golden and crispy.

  5. Cook the tofu steaks in a skillet or oven until crispy on the outside and tender inside.

  6. Melt the vegan butter in a pan, stir in tahini, and cook until browned and nutty.

  7. Serve the tofu steaks and chips drizzled with the brown butter sauce, seasoned with salt, pepper, and chopped herbs.
