Tempeh in Teriyaki Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 block tempeh
  • 2 tablespoons tamari or coconut aminos
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup or coconut sugar
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon liquid smoke
  • 1/2 inch piece ginger, minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon roasted sesame oil, optional

Preparation

  1. Slice tempeh into 1/2 inch strips

  2. Place in large saucepan and cover with water

  3. Bring to high heat and simmer covered for 10 minutes

  4. While tempeh is simmering, mix all remaining ingredients together in a small bowl and set aside

  5. After tempeh has finished simmering, drain well and leave it in the saucepan

  6. While the tempeh is still hot, add the sauce and coat each piece of tempeh with it

  7. Turn on heat to low and simmer tempeh in sauce until it is almost completely reduced

  8. Serve and enjoy
