Barbecue Chickpeas Served with Rice and Avocado

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp tomato puree
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup
  • 2 tsp vegan Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic puree
  • 2 tsp tamari or soy sauce
  • 1 tsp liquid smoke (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp cider vinegar
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tbsp water to thin it out
  • a little coconut sugar (optional, to taste)
  • 1 can of chickpeas, rinsed and dried

Preparation

  1. Place chickpeas in air fryer for 10-15 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius, checking and tossing them to ensure even cooking on all sides.

  2. For the sauce, combine all sauce ingredients and mix well. Taste and adjust seasoning; you might not need the coconut sugar.

  3. Once chickpeas are ready (slightly crunchy outside and soft inside), warm a little sauce over low heat and toss the chickpeas in it to coat.

  4. Serve with your favorite sides such as rice, avocado, and greens.
