Greek Lamb Steaks with Tzatziki and Flatbreads
Ingredients
- 600g lamb steaks
- Flatbreads
Souvlaki marinade
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 3 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp dried oregano
- 2 cloves garlic, finely grated
- 3/4 tsp chilli or cayenne pepper
- 3/4 tsp cumin powder
- 1 heaped tsp smoked paprika
- Good pinch of salt and black pepper
Tzatziki
- 250g Greek yogurt
- 1/2 cucumber, grated
- 1 tsp finely grated garlic
- Handful fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
- Handful fresh parsley leaves, finely chopped
- Good pinch of salt
Preparation
Mix the souvlaki marinade ingredients together in a bowl and apply to the lamb steaks
Refrigerate the marinated lamb for at least a couple of hours to allow flavors to develop
Grate the cucumber for tzatziki and squeeze out excess water using kitchen roll or a clean tea towel
Combine the grated cucumber with Greek yogurt, garlic, mint, parsley, and salt in a bowl
Refrigerate the tzatziki for 20-30 minutes to let the flavors meld
Cook the marinated lamb steaks under the grill or on the BBQ until done to your preference
Serve the lamb on top of tzatziki and accompany with flatbreads
Tips
Rest the lamb for a few minutes after cooking for better texture and juiciness
The souvlaki marinade can also be used for chicken, pork chops, or other meats
Tzatziki may taste better with mint and parsley instead of traditional dill, as per preference
