Traditional Turkish Glass Cookies

Ingredients

  • 125 grams butter or margarine, at room temperature
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • slightly less than 1 cup starch
  • 1 egg
  • 1 packet vanilla
  • 2.5 cups flour, add gradually

For the centers

  • small colored sugars

Preparation

  1. All ingredients are placed in a large bowl and kneaded well.

  2. The dough is rolled out between two sheets of parchment paper.

  3. Shapes are cut from the dough using a glass or desired cutter.

  4. The center of the shaped part is cut out with a smaller version of the same shape, such as a bottle cap.

  5. The dough with hollow centers is placed on a baking sheet.

  6. Bake in a 180-degree oven for 10 minutes, checking carefully.

  7. After baking, add sugars to the hollow centers.

  8. Put back in the oven and bake for another 5 minutes.

  9. After cooling, it is ready to serve.
