Egyptian Hawashi with Special Dough
Ingredients
Dough
- 3 cups flour
- 1 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 3 tablespoons corn oil
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
Filling
- 250 grams kefta
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese
Glaze
- 1 egg
- 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon nigella seeds
Serving
- sumac
Preparation
Mix all dough ingredients together and knead until smooth, then let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Prepare the filling by combining kefta and mozzarella cheese.
Divide the dough into portions, stuff each with the filling mixture, and seal the edges securely.
Prepare the glaze by beating the egg and mixing it with mozzarella cheese and nigella seeds, then brush it over the stuffed dough.
Bake in a preheated oven until golden brown and cooked through, typically around 200°C for 20-25 minutes.
Serve hot, sprinkled with sumac for added flavor.
