Homemade Hot Dogs with Coleslaw

Ingredients

Bun

  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 20 g fresh yeast
  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 70 g melted butter

Coleslaw

  • 1/2 small white cabbage head
  • 3 carrots
  • 1 onion
  • 5 tablespoons light mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon honey or sugar
  • salt
  • pepper
  • optional parsley

Assembly

  • 6 hot dog sausages
  • ketchup to taste
  • American sauce to taste
  • fried onions to taste

Preparation

Bun

  1. Crumble the yeast into a bowl, add warm milk, flour, and sugar and mix until combined, then set aside for 10-15 minutes until it doubles in volume

  2. Sift the flour into a bowl, add egg, melted butter, warm water, and the risen yeast mixture, mix until combined, then knead until it pulls away from hands and add more flour if necessary

  3. Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour

  4. Divide the dough into 8 portions, shape each into a ball, roll out, and roll into a cylinder, sealing the edges

  5. Let the shaped buns rest for about 10 minutes to puff up, then brush with egg and sprinkle with sesame seeds

  6. Bake for about 20 minutes in a preheated oven at 180°C

Coleslaw

  1. Grate the white cabbage on large holes of a grater and grate the carrots on fine holes

  2. Chop the onion finely, transfer all vegetables to a bowl, add mayonnaise, mix until combined, and chill in the refrigerator

Assembly

  1. Slice the baked buns, spread ketchup inside, add a hot dog sausage, top with coleslaw, more ketchup, American sauce, and fried onions
