- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 tsp yeast
- 2 tbsp milk powder (optional)
- 1 cup warm milk
- warm water as needed
Filling and topping

- cheddar cheese
- 3 tbsp butter
- 1 clove garlic

Preparation
Place the flour, sugar, salt, yeast and milk powder (if using) in a large mixing bowl and mix ingredients. Add 1 cup warm milk and mix until absorbed. Add warm water a tablespoon at a time until dough comes together, knead for a few minutes until smooth. Oil the dough, place in a bowl, cover and leave to prove in a warm place for one hour.
After proving, cut the dough into 16 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball with your hands, then use a rolling pin to roll it out. Place a small amount of cheese filling inside, seal the ends tightly and pinch to close. Arrange the filled balls in a greased ovenproof dish or cast iron skillet with space between them as they will expand. Leave to prove again in a warm place for 45 to 60 minutes or until expanded.
Bake in a preheated oven at gas mark 7, 220°C electric, or 200°C fan for 25 to 30 minutes. While the balls are baking, prepare the garlic butter by adding 1 grated clove of garlic and chopped coriander or parsley to 3 tablespoons melted butter. Brush the garlic butter over the baked dough balls immediately after removing them from the oven and serve.
