Braided Cheese Pastry
Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 packet dry yeast
- 5-6 cups flour, add gradually depending on quality
Topping
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil
Filling
- Cottage cheese
Preparation
Add the liquid ingredients to a kneading bowl.
Add yeast and sugar on top and wait 5 minutes for the yeast to activate.
Add flour and salt, then knead until the dough does not stick to hands.
Let the dough rise for 30 minutes.
Divide the dough into 13 equal pieces.
Roll out each piece lengthwise with a rolling pin.
Place cottage cheese in between the dough pieces and shape by braiding.
Brush the shaped pastries with a mixture of egg yolk and vegetable oil.
Let them rest for 15 minutes for tray proofing.
Bake in a 160°C oven until golden brown.
Tips
The more you knead yeast doughs, the better they rise.
